Signs

When gambling is doing harm

  • Spending more time or money than you meant to.
  • Borrowing, using savings or selling things to gamble.
  • Gambling to get back money you have lost.
  • Feeling restless, low or irritable when you are not gambling.
  • Hiding how much you gamble from people close to you.
  • Gambling getting in the way of work, sleep, money or family.

One of these is reason enough to pause. Harm often builds slowly, and it reaches the people around you too.

Tools

What every licensed site must give you

  • Deposit limits per day, week or month, chosen as you sign up.
  • Reality checks that tell you how long you have been playing.
  • Time-outs that lock an account for a short spell.
  • Self-exclusion from one operator for six months or longer.
  • GAMSTOP (opens in a new tab): free self-exclusion from every site licensed in Great Britain, for six months, one year or five years.
  • Gambling blocks in many banking apps, and blocking software for devices.
